Primetime Limited, the producer of the highly anticipated National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), has extended an invitation to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, to be the special guest of honor at the grand finale of the competition. This much-anticipated event is scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2023, at the National Theater in Accra.
The organizers of the Science and Maths quiz expressed their enthusiasm for President Akufo-Addo’s participation in the event.
The NSMQ 2023 grand finale, set to commence at 2 p.m., marks the culmination of the competition that kicked off with initial rounds held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The qualifying schools for this year’s NSMQ final include Kumasi-based Opoku Ware School, as well as Accra-based Senior High Schools Achimota School and Presbyterian Boys Senior High School. These institutions are poised to compete in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
However, amidst the excitement surrounding the event, controversy has arisen. Kumasi-based Prempeh College, a five-time champion of the NSMQ, has filed a court injunction to halt the grand finale of the 30th edition of the quiz. This decision comes in the wake of a petition filed by Prempeh College to have the results of the semi-final stage reviewed, which was allegedly ignored by Primetime Limited.
In their protest statement, Prempeh College called on the NSMQ producer to overturn the semi-final stage results in their favor. The college argues that their answer to a riddle, “principle of superposition,” should be considered equivalent to the response provided by the Physics consultant, “principle of (linear) superposition,” as both phrases refer to the same principle and are commonly accepted in higher physics literature.
The court injunction application by Prempeh College against Primetime Limited is set to be heard on November 2, 2023, adding an element of uncertainty to the NSMQ’s grand finale.
The 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz is produced by Primetime Limited and is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service in partnership with Goil PLC. It also enjoys support from A.T., Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, and Pepsodent.
